With a staff of around 300, the Fraunhofer IWM has a wide range of responsibilities and scope for dedicated employees to work independently in the fields of science and technology.
What to expect
- New, exciting and suspenseful.
- We work on hot topics.
- Let’s pretend, very precisely.

New, exciting and suspenseful.
Hitchcock would have loved to work here...
Innovation is our business and there’s always a sense of suspense and excitement in the air at the Fraunhofer IWM. So what is so exciting about components you ask? How does stress (suspense in the material) affect component safety, reliability and lifespan? How can stress be controlled in manufacturing processes?
We also value the suspense that arises when creative diverse minds come together. The more diverse our work and the challenges we have to solve, the much more exciting and diverse the people that work here.

We work on hot topics.
If you are looking for hot topics, then you have come to the right place. Testing ceramic components, simulating motor components or stamping glass micro optics at 1000 °C is an everyday occurrence for us. We also get a little hot under the collar when the project team has to decide on the best solution from a selection of good solutions or when our industrial clients need robust results in a very short period of time!

Let’s pretend, very precisely.
This is something we believe in whole-heartedly. After all, our component and manufacturing process simulations help many industries to save money and shorten development times. Wire drawing, powder compacting, bearing wear or lifespan predictions: the topics that seem impossible are the ones that we are interested in the most. We look at them virtually and then find the real-life solution.
